Choosing games

The project is about the representation of disability in horror and science fiction games. So it is not about diagnosing game characters, or looking at simulations of various conditions. It is not about accessibility, or therapy.

Because it’s based on the idea that particular fantasies have salience (become relevant, popular, or persist) because they are culturally pertinent –  there’s a focus on games that have large audiences.  Games are not selected on the basis of being the most recent, or most innovative, etc. and there’s a focus on console games (there’s no attempt to cover all platforms, or all genres). The list keeps changing but at the moment it includes Deus Ex: Human Revolutions, Dead Space series, Mass Effect series, System Shock series, BioShock, Resident Evil 4 and 6.
